My LINK Project
For my LINK Project I worked with the Humane Society’s trainer Marcy Eckhardt with getting dogs on the way for their Canine Good Citizen certificate. This is a 10 step test that any dog can take this test and it is a prerequisite for therapy dogs. I didn’t help any of the dogs go through the final test but I helped prepare them for it. In the practice we used treats as an incentive for them to comply with what you’re asking of them. Some of the things I helped with were getting them to sit and stay on command, calling them over to you, sitting polity for a stranger, accepting getting groomed, walking them on a loose leash, and walking them in a public place. I only got to work on this for 2 days with (and the two dogs I worked with were Binky and Frankie) Marcy so I didn’t get to do much but with the time I was given I learned a lot on how to get dogs to listen to you and how smart they really are.
