Reflection
For my internship I went to the La Plata County Humane Society. For the 3 weeks I was there I helped take care of the animals by making sure they were in proper play groups, helping feed them, cleaning up after them in their kennels. Something I think helped me being successful during my internship was that I was willing to be patient with the dogs. These guys hate being in those kennels and are jumping at you, freaking out, and barking; so when they started doing that I’d wait and start talking to them for a couple of minutes and try to get the leash on them to take them out. From my internship I think I was able to improve my people skills because there were people who always asked about dogs and you kind of have to be a car salesman. With this there were also times where I was a deer in the headlights if someone asked me something and I didn’t know but it started to get easier over time. I don’t know what I want to do next but i do want dogs to be apart of my life. I also didn’t realize how much I love dogs until I went to the humane society. So even if I don’t pursue this as a career I’m definitely going to incorporate dogs into my life in some way whether that’s working at the local animal shelter or owning as many dogs as I can I just want them to be apart of my life. The Humane Society will be more than happy to take in hard workers and I like to think I was hard working and did a good job while I was there. So if there are students want to volunteer there just do what you’re told with your head held high and try to enjoy what you do while you’re there.
